“My life is an association with rocks. I feel drawn to pick up every one of them.” Issues of love, commitment, family and spirit figure heavily in Steven's work. Simple form, and the humor with which they are often presented, makes his pieces easily accessible, and quietly compelling.
Self-taught, Steven has been sculpting stone since 1981.
In 1986, he built Cedar Maze, his home and studio in Point Pleasant, Pennsylvania. He created a sculpture garden, and from 1997 through 2017 he featured his work there along with that of other artists at yearly Cedar Maze Art Shows.
He then moved his studio and sculpture to a Frenchtown location and exhibited there from 2018 through 2023 at HoBART Art Show.
Steven Snyder passed away on March 13, 2025 from complications with Parkinson's and Lewy Body Dementia. He is sorely missed.
His son, Justin Anchinsko, continues the family tradition by creating polished stone benches and sculpture in his own unique style. There will be an art show featuring remaining pieces of Steven's as well as new works by Justin on September 19, 20, and 26, 27, 2026, 11 am to 5 pm, 31 Rake Road, Flemington, NJ, 08822. Free. Refreshments available.

Excerpted from an article by Kerri Allen, Contributor, Curious traveler, culture junkie, November 22, 2013 for the Huffington Post:
Since its European "founding" in 1681, Bucks County has been a draw for those seeking quiet contemplation among nature. With Thanksgiving on the horizon and winter just beyond that, there's no better time to revel in the colors, tastes, and passionate people of this special spot in the Northeast.
Home to many writers, painters and playwrights, Bucks County has also been the residence of sculptor Steven Snyder for 47 years. In the quiet country woods of Point Pleasant, Pa., visitors wander under a fragrant forest of cedar trees through his expansive collection of sculptures at the singular Steven Snyder Cedar Maze. Pieces range from abstract arrangements of stone to representational objects like birds, angels and turtles -- even a train on a track.
Bucks County lies on a bed of limestone and Synder uses that and other rocks from the Delaware River including shale, diabase (a subvolcanic rock) and argillite to make his sculptures. In a short film by Elijah Lee Rider, Snyder explains, "If you're lucky enough to find a path, and it feels right to you, that that must be the divine thing to do -- to continue on that path and try to create good."
